What is Cracked Window? A place for me to comment and reflect in a public way about how I experience the world. Can I do so without engaging in excessive navel-gazing? Or without straining to impress myself or whoever visits here? Stay tuned.

This is also a place for me to show off my work. I’m a freelance writer, editor, and researcher by trade. I had a successful media career, first on the print side of newspapers, then the web — mostly for the Orlando Sentinel and its parent company, Tribune. Creating and managing web content businesses led to a foray in high tech at Intel, where I led development of a content service for a cutting-edge wireless web tablet. I’ve returned to my roots, focusing on writing and the research that brings it to life.

I grew up on a lake set amid orange groves, a vanished place I think about often. Now I’m a Florida escapee with deepening roots in Oregon — Portland, specifically. Living elsewhere is unthinkable unless my wife, Suzame Tong, our little boy Atticus, and I magically acquire a rustic country house set amid trees and water. I’d like to divide my time between the city and the woods. One can dream.
